Eco Scholars Grant Award

The Solid Waste Management Department and the Office of Sustainability through the City of San Antonio have awarded nearly $80,000 in eco-grants to principals of Southwest ISD. This program aims to support the city's Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) goals and will award $1 million in grants to local schools, both public and private. The schools must propose a project, program, or product that directly affects climate change, reduces greenhouse gases, or addresses sustainability issues such as water and energy conservation. The grant amount ranges from $3,000 to $10,000, based on the proposed project's scope and projected positive impact, and must be completed by the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

On January 20, 2023, all principals were sent information and a link to the grant application and were encouraged to apply and connect this opportunity to SWISD's Sustainable Goals and cross-curricular initiatives.
